Happy Valentines Day!
A day of love for hopeless romantics. I have been saving this heart fabric all year for just the right occasion. This black & creamy pink hearts georgette from FashionFabricsClub is so cute and (not so kitschy) that it can be worn year-round. I love the scale of the hearts as well as the density of the print.
For this year's Valentines Day outfit, I took to Instagram to ask you what I should make from my stash of patterns. I had four ideas in mind:
Option 1 was Simplicity S8636 view B
Option 2 was Simplicity S9098 view A
Option 3 was McCalls M8032 view B/C
Option 4 was Butterick B6705 view B
So I posted a poll:
The options were so close I had to go and check the statistics:
Options 3 won by 1 vote. So I ended up making McCalls #M8032 #BlytheMcCalls. McCalls M8032 is a super cute new pattern with gathering at the waist seam and ruffles at the neck, sleeves and skirt.
I think it was the best choice! In the end, I love the way the fabric reacted to the gathers, it is lightweight and drapey enough that it doesn't stick out or bunch up. Plus, the darts and seam lines are invisible with the density of the print. Good thing I didn't choose the Cynthia Rowley top! Those lines would have been invisible and all that hard work would have been for nothing.
If you want to learn how I made it, and more importantly how I created the gathers and hemmed the fabric, check out my YouTube tutorial. And scroll down to see how the dress turned out:
