When I planned a trip to Palm Beach, I knew I needed to make a wardrobe to match!
Do you have a stash of UFO laying around? You know, those Unfinished Objects? I certainly did - and this was one of them. Laying in a bag, which managed to get packed and make the move halfway across the country, I found this half finished dress.
The reason it was half-finished? I wanted to find a fun trim or accent fabric to go along with the blush ponte knit fabric from my stash. I had bought a beautiful (and expensive) blush chiffon fabric from Mood with small scattered flowers on it. And while it seems I intended to make the butterfly sleeve version C, I took a look at it again with fresh eyes.
And this time, with an event in mind, I decided that this dress would have enough statement by just using the sleeves from version D.
McCalls #M7717 which is now out-of-print, is a Laura Ashley fitted mini dress with a variety of fun sleeve options!
I made version D with only slight hemming modifications. The knit fabric I chose was heavy and getting pulled down by the weight of the sleeves. However, I was able to hem the bell sleeves and make it work!
I love the flattering silhouette of this pattern. The dress is bodice lined only with an invisible center back zipper. The princess seams, waistband, and A-line skirt are a staple for your wardrobe. And with darts on the front and back bodice and skirt, you are sure to get the perfect fit.
Scroll down to see how it turned out, and let me know what you think!
