Downtown Des Moines features a ton of fun events including the downtown Farmers' Market, a salvage yard and tons of artistic murals. Every Saturday morning from May through October, you can walk down Court Avenue to visit over 300 vendors from over 50 counties in the state at the DSM Downtown Farmers Market. There you can also view several great murals at the corner of Court and 2nd Avenue.
A few blocks away you can find West End Architectural Salvage; a coffee bar and 4-story industrial building filled with home decor and salvaged construction pieces. Across from West End Salvage, next to the Des Moines Social Club Theatre, you will find a walkway of murals and street art.
Heading further downtown into the East Village you can find several 'Welcome' murals drawn by local artists. Scroll down to view photos:
